And so to this book - why now you ask?
"I guess the time has come when we feel we have the pedigree to warrant one. Over nearly a 25 year period this pub has become such a huge part of not only my life, but also that of my wife and children and of course Paul and Judy and their children.
Awards have come in from Michelin, the AA, The Good Food Guide, Devon Life, Taste of the West and many others. Then there are the lives of so many of our regular customers who have walked through the door and given the Jack its heartbeat and place in local food culture – many now refer to us as a Devon institution! As a close-knit team it is their feedback, empty plates and wide smiles that provide us with all the motivation we need.
Scores of these friends have also asked why we don’t pull together all the best bits; a nostalgic timeline if you like of what we have accomplished scattered with easy-to-follow, achievable-at home recipes for some of our best loved dishes. So here it is, a labour of love 20+ years in the making that has, like all the best books, been written to give pleasure and to be used."
